The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Malaki Starks, the 109th pick, roughly 93 picks past where he belonged.
Reaching for Edwards left real value on the table behind him. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
They let Will Johnson come to them and pounced at pick 15. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They barely believed it either: Emeka Egbuka still on the board at the Round 2 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Donovan Edwards in pick No. 79, miles early. A need, and now a little less of one.
Malaki Starks in No. 109 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Baron. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Alfred Collins at slot 141 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Reuben Fatheree II at the 173rd overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They took Jalon Daniels at par in Round 7, Pick 13, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
