The Raiders ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.
Getting Johnson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The cost of the Robinson reach is exactly the players who went right after him. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 18 they get a building block for the line, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Trey Benson in No. 63 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A need, and now a little less of one.
Cedric Gray in pick 112 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Value said wait; Layden Robinson in the 148th pick says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Cornelius Johnson in the 214th overall pick, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Trevin Wallace in Round 7, Pick 3 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
