The board owed the Raiders one, and it paid up: Chris Paul Jr., the No. 117 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 6 slot like a gift left on the doorstep. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
The Griffith reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The phones were where this weekend was really won. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Adding Hendon Hooker by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th overall pick they get a difference-maker at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Omarion Hampton at pick No. 37 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Trey Amos at the Round 3 slot is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Andrew Mukuba in Round 3, Pick 9; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A straight-up fair deal on Luke Kandra at No. 107, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nice patience on Joshua Gray, who had no business lasting to the 179th pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Taking Chris Paul Jr. in slot 212 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Nick Nash at pick 216 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Thor Griffith well ahead of where he belonged. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
