The board owed the Raiders one, and it paid up: Kamren Kinchens, the No. 34 name on the board, sitting there at slot 113 like a gift left on the doorstep.
The whole projection now runs through Bo Nix; hit there and everything else looks smarter. Every board in the league had Irving lower, and that gap is the story. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Job largely done: cornerback settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a long-term answer under center, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
Bucky Irving in slot 44 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid sticker price for Christian Mahogany in Round 3, Pick 13, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Kamren Kinchens in No. 113 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor need, but a need all the same.
The board had Cam Hart higher than the Round 5 slot, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Somehow Cedric Gray was still sitting there in the 190th overall pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
The board fumbled Christian Jones all the way to slot 221, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Maurice Smith at the 231st pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
