You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Raiders did exactly that with Garrett Greene in pick No. 37. The final tally is a middling C+.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Emmanwori. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 6 they get a matchup problem out wide. The biggest hole, addressed.
A real head-scratcher, Garrett Greene in Round 2, Pick 5 is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid up for Barrett Carter at the 68th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Taking Nick Emmanwori in the 107th pick is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Brashard Smith in pick 144 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jason Marshall Jr. at the Round 6 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
KJ Jefferson in the 214th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
You do not let a tight end like Mitchell Evans reach pick 218 and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They reached a country mile for Moose Muhammad III at the 224th overall pick, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
