You can hear the double-takes from here. The Eagles took Joe Milton III at the 161st pick, roughly 39 spots before his name belonged.
The Trotter Jr. pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with wide receiver, interior defensive lineman and other spots still on the board. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
If Chop Robinson and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get a problem off the edge at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Edgerrin Cooper at slot 39 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A clean, defensible pick in the 44th overall pick with a little surplus value in Kamari Lassiter. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board had cheaper options than Kamren Kinchens at the Round 2 slot, and it noticed. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the 53rd pick leaves wide receiver, interior defensive lineman and other spots for later.
They talked themselves into Zak Zinter at Round 3, Pick 13, and the board did not agree. The roster fit checks out.
Blake Fisher in pick 120 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Joe Milton III at the Round 5 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
Kendall Milton at pick No. 171 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
