Philadelphia Eagles

The steal of the weekend belongs to the Eagles and Jackson: D-.

by Dutch · 2024 NFL Draft · 13 picks · 6 steals · 0 reaches

Future D+

The trade table was where it all came apart. The Eagles shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.

For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Jackson. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.

In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.22 · Pick 22 · Rome Odunze · WR · rank 9
In pick 22 they get a matchup problem out wide, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R1.24 · Pick 24 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 26
No drama and no debate, Cooper DeJean went about where he belonged in the Round 1 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.18 · Pick 50 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 49
Edgerrin Cooper at pick No. 50 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R2.21 · Pick 53 · Kris Jenkins · DL-EDGE · rank 50
A tidy little value on Kris Jenkins in the 53rd overall pick, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Calen Bullock · S · rank 83
They did well to land Calen Bullock in No. 87, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 104
Cole Bishop in the 102nd pick is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · Zak Zinter · OG · rank 105
No edge and no loss on Zak Zinter in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 98
Christian Mahogany at pick No. 108 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.18 · Pick 118 · Matt Goncalves · OT · rank 114
Matt Goncalves at pick 118 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.23 · Pick 159 · Nehemiah Pritchett · CB · rank 143
Nice patience on Nehemiah Pritchett, who had no business lasting to the 159th pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.35 · Pick 171 · Mason McCormick · OT · rank 146
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 171st overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.37 · Pick 173 · Isaiah Davis · RB · rank 156
They let Isaiah Davis come to them and pounced at Round 5, Pick 37. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.35 · Pick 210 · Jha'Quan Jackson · WR · rank 178
The board fumbled Jha'Quan Jackson all the way to slot 210, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
