Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Zakhari Franklin got past him. The Texans do not have to explain a thing at the 247th overall pick. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 23rd pick they get a difference-maker at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Brandon Dorlus in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Fair-plus on Marist Liufau, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Justin Eboigbe in No. 123 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, Jordan Travis at Round 4, Pick 26 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
A reasonable price with a little left over, LaDarius Henderson in pick No. 163. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid sticker price for Eric Gentry in slot 239, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Somehow Zakhari Franklin was still sitting there in pick 247, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
