There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Cardinals started one anyway for Zakhari Franklin, 26 picks ahead of schedule. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. That Elliss pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Brock Bowers at pick 4 squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Emeka Egbuka at the 26th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Tyler Guyton at the 40th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jonah Elliss in No. 66 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Michael Hall Jr. in Round 3, Pick 7 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Marist Liufau in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
Matt Goncalves at the 104th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A reach on Jordan Travis in pick No. 133; the board had better options right there. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A wild overpay on Zakhari Franklin in pick 188, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Zion Logue in the 225th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
