You could see the war room lean forward. Ray Davis at the Round 5 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.

That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Travis pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.31 · Pick 31 · Kamari Lassiter · CB · rank 27
In slot 31 they get a potential shutdown corner. Need was not the driver here.
R2.29 · Pick 61 · T'Vondre Sweat · DL · rank 57
A clean, defensible pick in No. 61 with a little surplus value in T'Vondre Sweat. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R2.31 · Pick 63 · Byron Murphy II · DL · rank 72
A reach on Byron Murphy II in the 63rd pick; the board had better options right there. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Roman Wilson · WR · rank 93
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Roman Wilson at pick 108. It fills a real need, too.
R4.28 · Pick 128 · Jordan Travis · QB · rank 143
They paid up for Jordan Travis at Round 4, Pick 28 when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.12 · Pick 148 · Ray Davis · RB · rank 124
Steal is underselling it; Ray Davis at pick No. 148 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.20 · Pick 156 · Justin Walley · CB · rank 171
They paid a round early for Justin Walley in the 156th overall pick, more than the board wanted. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
R5.27 · Pick 163 · Josh Proctor · S · rank 177
A conviction pick on Josh Proctor at the Round 5 slot that the board grades a round light. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.28 · Pick 164 · Keith Randolph Jr. · DL-EDGE · rank 160
Keith Randolph Jr. at Round 5, Pick 28 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.2 · Pick 177 · Moose Muhammad III · WR · rank 154
Circle this one: Moose Muhammad III at slot 177 is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.4 · Pick 179 · Michael Barrett · LB · rank 192
The board had cheaper options than Michael Barrett at No. 179, and it noticed. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R7.10 · Pick 230 · Zion Nelson · OT · rank 210
Zion Nelson at the 230th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
