Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders let Gray fall into their laps, and walked away with a B+.

The real work happened on the phones. The Raiders fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.

However the rest shakes out, Gray at that price is a win they earned. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The Lee pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.22 · Pick 22 · Nate Wiggins · CB · rank 17
In the Round 1 slot they get a sticky cover corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Zach Frazier · C · rank 61
They paid up for Zach Frazier at the 44th pick when waiting would have done the job. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R2.18 · Pick 50 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 46
Good price on J.J. McCarthy in the 50th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.13 · Pick 77 · Kiran Amegadjie · OT · rank 65
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kiran Amegadjie at pick No. 77 is the proof. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.34 · Pick 97 · Zak Zinter · OG · rank 104
By-the-book stuff, Zak Zinter at Round 3, Pick 34 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.11 · Pick 111 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 96
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Trey Benson in No. 111. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.11 · Pick 147 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 126
Cedric Gray at the Round 5 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R5.38 · Pick 174 · Kitan Oladapo · S · rank 156
Taking Kitan Oladapo in pick No. 174 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R6.32 · Pick 207 · Cornelius Johnson · WR · rank 187
The board fumbled Cornelius Johnson all the way to slot 207, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Logan Lee · DL · rank 241
Logan Lee in pick 223 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.9 · Pick 229 · Michael Barrett · LB · rank 218
A quiet steal in Round 7, Pick 9: Michael Barrett for less than the market said. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R7.19 · Pick 239 · KT Leveston · OT · rank 238
They took KT Leveston at par in No. 239, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
