The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Raiders spent their marquee pick on Cam Ward, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Mafah. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Biggers has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th pick they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Walter Nolen at pick No. 37 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid sticker price for Jayden Higgins in Round 3, Pick 4, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No edge and no loss on Maxwell Hairston in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They did well to land Malachi Moore in No. 107, just ahead of his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They let Cody Simon come to them and pounced at the 144th overall pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Jack Nelson in pick 182 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Carson Vinson at slot 214 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A reach on Zeek Biggers in Round 6, Pick 40; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
You do not let a running back like Phil Mafah reach pick No. 224 and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
