The Eagles ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
Getting Jones where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The Eagles indulged a want in Gray while a need in edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots stayed open.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Javon Bullard at the Round 2 slot is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A reach on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in No. 53; the board had better options right there. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A surprising call. With edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots still to address, they spent pick No. 120 on Cedric Gray, a linebacker they were not short of.
You do not let a cornerback like Jarrian Jones reach slot 161 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jacob Cowing at the 171st pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A quiet steal in slot 172: Dwight McGlothern for less than the market said. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 6 slot, where Trente Jones graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
