Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Eagles, and the value they bled adds up to real damage.
The Gray pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots still on the board. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Barton. They went 6 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 22 they get a press-man option on the boundary. The biggest hole, addressed.
They robbed the room for Graham Barton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Payton Wilson in the 54th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor itch, scratched.
They read the board right and Kris Jenkins was the payoff at the 55th overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Javon Bullard in pick 66 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Ricky Pearsall is a better player than Round 3, Pick 7 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Fair-plus on Andru Phillips, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid sticker price for Cole Bishop in the Round 4 slot, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went linebacker with Cedric Gray while clear needs at interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots sat open.
Johnny Wilson slipping to pick 138 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Brennan Jackson at No. 161 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No drama and no debate, Jaheim Bell went about where he belonged in the 162nd pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Nice patience on Walter Rouse, who had no business lasting to pick No. 172. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jha'Quan Jackson at the 182nd overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Tip Reiman in the 188th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The roster fit checks out.
Circle this one: Ryan Flournoy at pick No. 221 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Garret Greenfield slid further than he should have, and No. 226 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They barely believed it either: Caedan Wallace still on the board at the 238th overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Dominique Hampton at the Round 7 slot is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Edefuan Ulofoshio in slot 247. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
