Thirty-one other rooms let Tyler Shough slide, and the Raiders were the ones holding the card at No. 213. Highway robbery.
They have staked the next five years on Shedeur Sanders, which is the only story that really matters here. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Christian Watson deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 23rd overall pick they get the arm they will build around, and a steal at that.
Jalon Walker in pick No. 37 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Azareye'h Thomas at No. 68 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Donovan Jackson in pick No. 87 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They read the board right and Jaylin Noel was the payoff at Round 4, Pick 6. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They did well to land Aeneas Peebles in the 143rd overall pick, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Steal is underselling it; Chase Lundt at pick 180 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They robbed the room for Tyler Shough here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A need, and now a little less of one.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jordan Hancock in the Round 6 slot. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A straight-up fair deal on Isaac TeSlaa at the 222nd pick, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
