Somebody in the Round 5 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Raiders sat still while Joshua Farmer, the No. 120 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. The board rewarded a patient, disciplined weekend with a A-.
If Ewers pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.
The Jeff Okudah pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
The kind of weekend a front office frames and hangs on the wall.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a ballhawk on the outside, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Emeka Egbuka is a better player than Round 2, Pick 5 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A premium they did not need to pay, Donovan Ezeiruaku a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A real head-scratcher, Quinn Ewers in the 68th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, TreVeyon Henderson in No. 73, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Taking Barrett Carter in the Round 4 slot is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Kevin Winston Jr. in pick No. 124 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor itch, scratched.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Hollin Pierce reach the 139th pick and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at the 166th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
