You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Raiders did exactly that with Gino Garcia in the Round 6 slot.
Winston Jr. falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 12 they get a lead back with juice at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
The board had Emeka Egbuka higher than slot 37, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Aireontae Ersery at No. 44 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They barely believed it either: Trey Amos still on the board at the 68th pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid sticker price for Donovan Ezeiruaku in the 73rd overall pick, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Value said wait; Kyle McCord in the Round 4 slot says they were not listening. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They robbed the room for Kevin Winston Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
No edge and no loss on JJ Pegues in Round 6, Pick 4; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A straight-up fair deal on Addison West at slot 194, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A real head-scratcher, Gino Garcia in pick No. 218 is miles ahead of his ranking. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
