There is reaching, and then there is Gino Garcia at the Round 7 slot. The Raiders jumped the board by 63 and dared it to prove them wrong. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. The Farmer pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In the end it comes back to Luther Burden III, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 24 they get a weapon on the perimeter, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Jihaad Campbell in slot 37 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Dylan Sampson at the 68th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board had Zy Alexander higher than the Round 3 slot, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Kyle McCord this early at pick 97. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Dylan Fairchild is a better player than the 107th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Joshua Farmer in the Round 5 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ricky White III. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jaylen Reed at the 185th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A wild overpay on Gino Garcia in No. 224, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
