They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Will Putnam, 54 picks early at the Round 7 slot.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Getting Oladapo where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 18th overall pick they get a problem off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at pick No. 42 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Byron Murphy II in No. 47. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Ja'Tavion Sanders in the Round 2 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A market-rate DT-EDGE, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Maason Smith. Not a spot anyone had flagged, which makes it a head-scratcher.
They paid a round early for Michael Pratt in slot 87, more than the board wanted. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at the 149th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nice patience on Kitan Oladapo, who had no business lasting to the Round 6 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Carson Steele at No. 235 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No edge and no loss on Matthew Jones in Round 7, Pick 19; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A real head-scratcher, Will Putnam in pick 254 is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
