The trade table was a mismatch, and the Texans were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.
The cost of the Beebe reach is exactly the players who went right after him. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes. Trading back for volume was the quiet throughline of their weekend.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
They went early on T'Vondre Sweat in Round 2, Pick 15, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached a country mile for Cooper Beebe at pick 48, and the board is aghast. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Roman Wilson. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Javon Foster in No. 123 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
By-the-book stuff, James Williams at pick No. 124 squarely in line with his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Cedric Gray at slot 125 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Ben Sinnott in the Round 4 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
Jaylin Simpson at the 137th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They paid sticker price for Joe Milton III in pick No. 158, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jawhar Jordan at the 181st overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
