Call it larceny. Max Melton sat on the board until the 160th pick, and the Vikings did not need to be asked twice. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.
They are betting Capehart proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
Adding Aaron Donald by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.
Pick-by-Pick
Chop Robinson at pick No. 42 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A slide stopped in the Round 4 slot, with Jacob Cowing worth more than the price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Cole Bishop at the 130th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Steal is underselling it; Dominick Puni at pick 148 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They barely believed it either: Max Melton still on the board at slot 160. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They jumped the gun on Curtis Jacobs, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jaylen Harrell at Round 6, Pick 4 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
DeMonte Capehart in the 230th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
