You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Eagles did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. Put together, it is a D.
Spending an early pick on linebacker with quarterback open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They will need Williams to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
The Amegadjie pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick-by-Pick
Nice patience on Troy Fautanu, who had no business lasting to the 39th overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
By-the-book stuff, Edgerrin Cooper at pick No. 40 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
A surprising call. With quarterback still to address, they spent the 50th pick on Junior Colson, a linebacker they were not short of.
T.J. Tampa at slot 53 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Christian Haynes at pick 67 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No drama and no debate, Devontez Walker went about where he belonged in No. 68. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Kiran Amegadjie reach the 92nd overall pick and blink. They did not. The roster fit checks out.
A slide stopped in Round 3, Pick 35, with Blake Corum worth more than the price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Gabriel Murphy in the Round 3 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A tidy little value on Malik Washington in slot 101, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Mekhi Wingo in No. 109; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
James Williams in the 123rd pick is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
