The Cardinals finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B.

The search is over. The Cardinals handed the keys to Caleb Williams, and the whole operation now runs on his development. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

It is not that Carson is a bad player; it is that the Cardinals had louder needs to answer first. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.2 · Pick 2 · Caleb Williams · QB · rank 2
In the Round 1 slot they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
R1.21 · Pick 21 · Jared Verse · DE-EDGE · rank 21
In No. 21 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Nate Wiggins · CB · rank 34
By-the-book stuff, Nate Wiggins at the 34th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Jack Sawyer · DE-EDGE · rank 66
Jack Sawyer in pick 66 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Caelen Carson · CB · rank 70
A curious use of slot 70. Tight end needed the pick; a cornerback in Caelen Carson did not.
R3.22 · Pick 85 · Michael Hall Jr. · DT · rank 85
No edge and no loss on Michael Hall Jr. in the 85th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Bucky Irving · RB · rank 102
Bucky Irving at Round 4, Pick 2 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 133
Joe Milton III in pick No. 133 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 139
Tyler Guyton at the 139th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Ainias Smith · WR · rank 169
A straight-up fair deal on Ainias Smith at pick 169, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.23 · Pick 198 · Ben Bywater · LB · rank 198
No drama and no debate, Ben Bywater went about where he belonged in pick No. 198. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Cody Schrader · RB · rank 223
They took Cody Schrader at par in the Round 7 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R7.6 · Pick 226 · Carson Steele · RB · rank 226
They paid sticker price for Carson Steele in slot 226, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
