Call it larceny. Woody Marks sat on the board until the 224th pick, and the Raiders did not need to be asked twice.
The Williams reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 14 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end at fair value. A real need, handled.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kenneth Grant in the 37th overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A tidy little value on Jaxson Dart in pick No. 45, a step better than break-even. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, TreVeyon Henderson at No. 68. It fills a real need, too.
They took Zy Alexander at par in pick 73, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They went early on Savion Williams in the Round 3 slot, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jaylin Noel slid further than he should have, and Round 4, Pick 6 is lovely value for the wide receiver. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A slide stopped in the 116th pick, with Smael Mondon Jr. worth more than the price. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Kevin Winston Jr. in pick No. 121 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A minor itch, scratched.
Circle this one: Brashard Smith at slot 144 is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Nice patience on Dont'e Thornton Jr., who had no business lasting to the Round 6 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jack Kiser slipping to the 210th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
A wild overpay on John Williams in the 214th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jermari Harris in pick 218 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Somehow Woody Marks was still sitting there in Round 7, Pick 6, and they pounced on premier running back value. The roster fit checks out.
