This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Zion Nelson, the No. 210 name on the board, stolen at No. 240. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. Reaching for Trotter Jr. left real value on the table behind him. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 22 they get an island corner at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Leonard Taylor III at Round 2, Pick 3 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They took J.J. McCarthy at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reach for Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in No. 54; a little patience would have been rewarded. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Christian Mahogany in the 82nd overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Zion Nelson at pick 240 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
