Minnesota Vikings

McCarthy is the plan now, and the Vikings grade out a B.

The search is over. The Vikings handed the keys to J.J. McCarthy, and the whole operation now runs on his development. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

The Greenfield steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Reaching for McCaffrey left real value on the table behind him. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.13 · Pick 13 · Jer'Zhan Newton · DL · rank 12
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a wrecking ball inside. A clean fit for the roster.
R1.23 · Pick 23 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 29
In No. 23 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R3.13 · Pick 77 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 75
Mike Sainristil in slot 77 is fair value, right on his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Zak Zinter · OG · rank 105
Zak Zinter at pick 108 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.32 · Pick 132 · Luke McCaffrey · WR · rank 149
They paid a round early for Luke McCaffrey in the 132nd pick, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
R5.21 · Pick 157 · Trevor Keegan · OG · rank 144
The board had Trevor Keegan higher than the Round 5 slot, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.31 · Pick 167 · Ainias Smith · WR · rank 141
Ainias Smith in the 167th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.2 · Pick 177 · Dillon Johnson · RB · rank 168
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Dillon Johnson at pick No. 177. It fills a real need, too.
R7.10 · Pick 230 · Myles Harden · CB · rank 209
Steal is underselling it; Myles Harden at No. 230 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
R7.12 · Pick 232 · Nathan Thomas · OT · rank 228
Good price on Nathan Thomas in the Round 7 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.32 · Pick 252 · Garret Greenfield · OT · rank 216
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Garret Greenfield in the 252nd overall pick, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
