The Raiders spent the pick that matters most on Jaxson Dart, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. This is how you run a draft, and the A- reflects it.
They banked enough surplus on Brown to cover a lot of smaller sins. The Pegues pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
In short, they turned a good board into a better roster, and it shows.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise, reach and all. A real need, handled.
Tre Harris in pick No. 37 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nice patience on TreVeyon Henderson, who had no business lasting to slot 68. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Taking Zy Alexander in the 107th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A wild overpay on JJ Pegues in No. 144, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Logan Brown in pick 182 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
