The Raiders spent real capital to be 87 picks early on Tim Smith, and the board is going to hold them to it.
Jalen Milroe is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. On value alone, Moore makes the weekend a net positive.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 5 they get their quarterback of the future, though the board says they badly overpaid. A clean fit for the roster.
A premium they did not need to pay, Dylan Sampson a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Xavier Restrepo in Round 3, Pick 3 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Taking Malachi Moore in No. 70 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They reached a country mile for Parker Brailsford at pick No. 106, and the board is aghast. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took Jaeden Roberts at par in the Round 5 slot, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Will Howard well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Tim Smith at No. 212 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Shilo Sanders in pick No. 215 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Dasan McCullough in pick 220 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
