You build a draft on nights like this. DJ James had no business being available in pick 120, and the Eagles did the only sane thing and turned in the card. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 5 of 9 of the wish list covered. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get a ballhawk on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Ja'Tavion Sanders slid further than he should have, and the 50th pick is lovely value for the tight end. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They paid sticker price for Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in No. 68, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Taking DJ James in slot 120 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Luke McCaffrey at the 161st overall pick is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
You do not let a safety like Kitan Oladapo reach the Round 5 slot and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
The board had Trente Jones higher than pick No. 210, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
