Start where it matters. The Vikings took Jayden Daniels to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
They banked enough surplus on Oladapo to cover a lot of smaller sins. They went 8 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 7th pick they get the face of the franchise. The biggest hole, addressed.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in pick No. 38 is fair value, right on his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
No edge and no loss on Kamari Lassiter in the 42nd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Theo Johnson. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A tidy little value on Dylan Laube in Round 5, Pick 20, a step better than break-even. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They robbed the room for Jacob Cowing here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A need, and now a little less of one.
No drama and no debate, Layden Robinson went about where he belonged in the Round 6 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Taking Kitan Oladapo in slot 187 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Eric Watts at pick 206 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A straight-up fair deal on Myles Murphy at Round 7, Pick 1, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Fair-plus on Frank Gore Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It fills a real need, too.
