The board owed the Vikings one, and it paid up: Tykee Smith, the No. 147 name on the board, sitting there at pick 177 like a gift left on the doorstep. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
They are betting Sinnott proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The Maliek Collins pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 23 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value.
No edge and no loss on J.J. McCarthy in Round 2, Pick 10; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Ben Sinnott this early at the 108th pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They reached into another round for Jarrian Jones, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
By-the-book stuff, Mason McCormick at the 157th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They jumped the gun on Khristian Boyd, taking him earlier than his grade liked. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They barely believed it either: Tykee Smith still on the board at pick 177. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They went early on Daijun Edwards in slot 188, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Logan Lee at pick No. 224 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They robbed the room for JD Bertrand here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It adds depth where they could use a little.
