When a board-topper like Jordan Whittington slides to the 240th pick, you do not overthink it, and the Texans did not. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Every board in the league had Mincey lower, and that gap is the story. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Calen Bullock slipping to No. 53 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jaylin Simpson in Round 3, Pick 32. A minor itch, scratched.
They paid sticker price for Ricky Pearsall in the 124th overall pick, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached into another round for Gerald Mincey, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
Circle this one: Jordan Whittington at the 240th pick is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jason Henderson at pick No. 242. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
