Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders answered their biggest question with Ward. Grade: B.

Call it larceny. Carson Schwesinger sat on the board until the 216th pick, and the Raiders did not need to be asked twice. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

So much rides on Cam Ward that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.6 · Pick 6 · Cam Ward · QB · rank 8
In the 6th overall pick they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Omarion Hampton · RB · rank 18
Omarion Hampton at pick 37 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Dylan Fairchild · OG · rank 55
The board had Dylan Fairchild higher than pick 68, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.9 · Pick 73 · Barrett Carter · LB · rank 80
Barrett Carter in pick No. 73 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R4.5 · Pick 106 · Elic Ayomanor · WR · rank 94
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Elic Ayomanor in slot 106. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.5 · Pick 142 · Danny Stutsman · LB · rank 84
They barely believed it either: Danny Stutsman still on the board at the 142nd overall pick. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R6.4 · Pick 179 · Joshua Gray · OG · rank 164
Joshua Gray slid further than he should have, and No. 179 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.37 · Pick 212 · Jacob Parrish · CB · rank 191
Jacob Parrish in the Round 6 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Carson Schwesinger · LB · rank 124
They robbed the room for Carson Schwesinger here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R7.6 · Pick 222 · Brandon Adams · CB · rank 211
Nice patience on Brandon Adams, who had no business lasting to Round 7, Pick 6. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.37 · Pick 253 · Nick Nash · WR · rank 240
A quiet steal in pick 253: Nick Nash for less than the market said. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
