Start where it matters. The Raiders took Michael Penix Jr. to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The cost of the Byrd reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Landing Dixon that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value.
Nothing to complain about; Jordan Morgan went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Brandon Dorlus at the 77th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No drama and no debate, Ray Davis went about where he belonged in pick No. 112. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They barely believed it either: Chau Smith-Wade still on the board at pick 148. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jha'Quan Jackson in slot 208 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Johnny Dixon in No. 223 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jaylan Ford at the 227th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A minor itch, scratched.
Solomon Byrd at the 229th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
