Arizona Cardinals

A respectable, level-headed haul for the Cardinals: B-.

The tape said wait; the Cardinals did not. Sam Hartman went at No. 198, a good 58 picks before the board was ready. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

The Lovett value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.

They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.2 · Pick 2 · Brock Bowers · TE · rank 6
In Round 1, Pick 2 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end at fair value.
R1.21 · Pick 21 · Jer'Zhan Newton · DL · rank 16
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the defensive front at fair value. A real need, handled.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Marist Liufau · LB · rank 84
Marist Liufau at No. 34 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Audric Estime · RB · rank 106
They left a pile of value on the table to take Audric Estime this early at pick 66. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Howard Cross III · DL · rank 77
Howard Cross III at pick No. 70 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
R3.22 · Pick 85 · Caelen Carson · CB · rank 70
Caelen Carson slipping to the 85th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Blake Fisher · OT · rank 97
Good price on Blake Fisher in No. 102, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Ricky Pearsall · WR · rank 122
Ricky Pearsall at the 133rd pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 142
Cedric Gray at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Cam Hart · CB · rank 172
No drama and no debate, Cam Hart went about where he belonged in pick 169. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
R6.23 · Pick 198 · Sam Hartman · QB · rank 256
A big swing on Sam Hartman at the 198th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Dominic Lovett · WR · rank 205
Circle this one: Dominic Lovett at pick No. 223 is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.6 · Pick 226 · Storm Duck · CB · rank 228
No edge and no loss on Storm Duck in slot 226; it is a wash and a sensible one. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
