There is conviction, and then there is this. The Texans took Trey Benson a full 22 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Watson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 23rd pick they get a weapon on the perimeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Value said wait; Trey Benson in pick No. 58 says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No drama and no debate, Tykee Smith went about where he belonged in pick 90. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Shemar Turner in No. 123 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Dallin Holker in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
By-the-book stuff, LaDarius Henderson at Round 5, Pick 27 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A tidy bit of business in No. 239, where Nathaniel Watson graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
A tidy little value on Jeremy James in the 247th pick, a step better than break-even. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
