Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Xavier Worthy got past him. The Texans do not have to explain a thing at No. 88.
Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 27 they get a potential shutdown corner, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kris Jenkins. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Steal is underselling it; Xavier Worthy at the 88th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy bit of business in Round 4, Pick 21, where Cooper Beebe graded well above the range. A need, and now a little less of one.
A quiet steal in the Round 4 slot: Junior Colson for less than the market said. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They took LaDarius Henderson at par in the 158th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nathaniel Watson slid further than he should have, and No. 239 is lovely value for the linebacker. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They will replay Dwight McGlothern at slot 242 for years; that is how good the value is. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
