The Texans looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Braelon Allen at slot 126 regardless, 25 picks early. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
However the rest shakes out, Watson at that price is a win they earned. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a ballhawk on the back end, reach and all.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ja'Tavion Sanders in the Round 2 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
They robbed the room for Payton Wilson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Fair-plus on Malik Washington, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A wild overpay on Braelon Allen in No. 126, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Grayson Murphy at slot 163 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Blake Watson in slot 239 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No drama and no debate, Dwight McGlothern went about where he belonged in No. 247. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
