Somebody in pick 53 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Texans sat still while Emeka Egbuka, the No. 23 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
They are betting Gentry proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The John Franklin-Myers deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Dallas Turner at par in the Round 1 slot, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
You do not let a wide receiver like Emeka Egbuka reach pick 53 and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Blake Fisher at pick No. 121 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jason Marshall Jr. at No. 124 is the proof. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
T.J. Sanders at Round 5, Pick 22 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid sticker price for Jase McClellan in slot 240, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A conviction pick on Eric Gentry at the 242nd pick that the board grades a round light. It fills a real need, too.
