Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Texans came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close.
Landing Clark that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Adding Roquan Smith by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 23 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Denzel Burke in No. 58 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A minor itch, scratched.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Will Shipley at pick 123. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Donovan Jackson in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A tidy little value on Ty'Ron Hopper in Round 5, Pick 27, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Taking De'Corian Clark in slot 239 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They read the board right and Jalen Green was the payoff at pick No. 247. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
