Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings found their guy under center in Maye: F.

The Leonard Taylor III selection is the head-turner. The Vikings reached 30 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. A F, plain and simple.

Whatever Drake Maye becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. The Robinson pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.

They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with running back still staring back at them.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.4 · Pick 4 · Drake Maye · QB · rank 5
In the 4th overall pick they get a long-term answer under center. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R1.16 · Pick 16 · Jared Verse · DE-EDGE · rank 16
In the 16th pick they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R1.25 · Pick 25 · Keon Coleman · WR · rank 24
Keon Coleman at the Round 1 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R1.31 · Pick 31 · Brian Thomas Jr. · WR · rank 28
In pick No. 31 they get a go-to option on the outside. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.3 · Pick 35 · Kamren Kinchens · S · rank 34
A straight-up fair deal on Kamren Kinchens at No. 35, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.10 · Pick 42 · Ja'Tavion Sanders · TE · rank 54
Ja'Tavion Sanders in slot 42 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 35
A top-tier edge rusher at a bargain, Chop Robinson in the Round 2 slot, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 56
Edgerrin Cooper slid further than he should have, and the 70th overall pick is lovely value for the linebacker. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R3.15 · Pick 79 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 75
Cooper Beebe at slot 79 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.19 · Pick 83 · Leonard Taylor III · DL · rank 113
They left a pile of value on the table to take Leonard Taylor III this early at the 83rd pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
