Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Eagles, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. The warnings were there, and the F is the bill.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. It is not that Trotter Jr. is a bad player; it is that the Eagles had louder needs to answer first.
On value alone, Wallace makes the weekend a net positive. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
There is no soft landing here: they fought the board and left edge rusher open, and the grade is the bill.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get a wrecking ball inside at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Edgerrin Cooper at the 53rd pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Taking Graham Barton in No. 57 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
Zach Frazier at slot 58 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Javon Bullard in pick No. 59 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Kamren Kinchens at Round 2, Pick 28 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nice patience on Roman Wilson, who had no business lasting to the 61st pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Christian Haynes is a better player than the 73rd overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Good price on Max Melton in pick No. 85, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at linebacker with edge rusher and quarterback open.
They will replay Ro Torrence at the Round 6 slot for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jha'Quan Jackson at pick 198 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Somehow Isaiah Williams was still sitting there in slot 206, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Tanner McLachlan in No. 210 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Circle this one: Kendall Milton at the 230th pick is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They let JD Bertrand come to them and pounced at pick No. 238. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Caedan Wallace at slot 247 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
