The Raiders spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Isaiah Williams, the No. 180 name on the board, in the 208th pick.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 21 they get a press-man option on the boundary. The biggest hole, addressed.
In No. 27 they get a ballhawk on the outside at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Patrick Paul in the Round 3 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Sataoa Laumea in Round 4, Pick 12 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Isaac Guerendo in slot 148 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Tahj Washington at pick No. 198 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board fumbled Isaiah Williams all the way to the 208th pick, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Steal is underselling it; Tanner McLachlan at the 229th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
