The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Vikings watched Tyler Davis slide 35 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped offensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. Reaching for Watson left real value on the table behind him.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 11 they get a premier pass rusher. The biggest hole, addressed.
A quarterback of that caliber at the Round 2 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Michael Hall Jr. at the 109th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They barely believed it either: Tyler Davis still on the board at Round 4, Pick 30. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A slide stopped in the 145th pick, with James Williams worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Cam Hart in pick 157 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They robbed the room for Luke McCaffrey here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
By-the-book stuff, Jaylan Ford at No. 179 squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Blake Watson at pick No. 227 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A need, and now a little less of one.
