Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders worked the phones like thieves and earned a B+.

by Silver · 2024 NFL Draft · 13 picks · 1 steals · 8 reaches

Trades A+
Future A

Nobody had Tyler Harrell this high, and it is not close. The Raiders reached 155 spots to get him at No. 232.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.

The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own. The Mahogany pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Quinyon Mitchell · CB · rank 30
In slot 25 they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.17 · Pick 49 · T'Vondre Sweat · DT · rank 58
They paid a round early for T'Vondre Sweat in the Round 2 slot, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.26 · Pick 89 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 78
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Christian Mahogany at pick No. 89 is the proof. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Blake Fisher · OT · rank 99
A conviction pick on Blake Fisher at Round 3, Pick 28 that the board grades a round light. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.13 · Pick 113 · Jordan Travis · QB · rank 137
A wild overpay on Jordan Travis in the 113th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Sione Vaki · S · rank 138
Sione Vaki in pick 127 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R4.28 · Pick 128 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 152
Theo Johnson at pick No. 128 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.11 · Pick 147 · Ty'Ron Hopper · LB · rank 157
They paid up for Ty'Ron Hopper at pick 147 when waiting would have done the job. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R5.25 · Pick 161 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 159
Braelon Allen at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
R6.23 · Pick 198 · Andrew Raym · C · rank 204
Andrew Raym in slot 198 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.11 · Pick 231 · Taulia Tagovailoa · QB · rank 244
They jumped the gun on Taulia Tagovailoa, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.12 · Pick 232 · Tyler Harrell · WR · rank 387
Tyler Harrell in Round 7, Pick 12 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.23 · Pick 243 · Daequan Hardy · CB · rank 241
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Daequan Hardy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
