The phones were a trap the Vikings kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They banked enough surplus on Tagovailoa to cover a lot of smaller sins. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 11 they get a wrecking ball inside. A clean fit for the roster.
Nice patience on Bo Nix, who had no business lasting to Round 2, Pick 1. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Tyler Nubin at pick 42 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They read the board right and T'Vondre Sweat was the payoff at the Round 3 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They took Bucky Irving at par in slot 94, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
Kris Abrams-Draine slipping to the 126th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Good price on LaDarius Henderson in No. 165, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jaylan Ford in the 179th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The board fumbled Taulia Tagovailoa all the way to Round 7, Pick 20, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
