Some picks age like wine; Dwight McGlothern at No. 188 will need to, sitting 92 spots clear of his grade. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The back end got a real overhaul.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 26th overall pick they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No edge and no loss on J.J. McCarthy in Round 2, Pick 12; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A reach on Cooper Beebe in the 66th pick; the board had better options right there. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid a round early for McKinnley Jackson in the Round 3 slot, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
Javon Foster in pick 91 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid up for Jarrian Jones at pick No. 113 when waiting would have done the job. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Renardo Green in the 124th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Value said wait; Dwight McGlothern in Round 6, Pick 13 says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
