Thirty-one other rooms let Tyrone Tracy Jr. slide, and the Eagles were the ones holding the card at slot 170. Highway robbery. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
On the needs board they went 8 of 9, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Chris Braswell at slot 50. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. is a better player than the 53rd overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A straight-up fair deal on Javon Bullard at No. 61, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A slide stopped in the 66th pick, with Xavier Worthy worth more than the price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
You do not let a wide receiver like Keon Coleman reach pick 71 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 3 slot, where Blake Fisher graded well above the range. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Steal is underselling it; Jaden Hicks at pick No. 90 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Marshawn Kneeland in Round 3, Pick 32 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Dominick Puni at slot 97 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Sataoa Laumea in the 118th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Andru Phillips at pick 133 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Marist Liufau in the Round 5 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They read the board right and Cody Schrader was the payoff at No. 169. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. in pick No. 170 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Circle this one: Josh Newton at Round 5, Pick 35 is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Taking Jarrian Jones in the 178th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Isaiah Davis at the 191st overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
Value with a capital V on Jaylan Ford in No. 210, a genuine coup. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
No edge and no loss on Erick All in the 212th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
By-the-book stuff, Jaylen Harrell at Round 6, Pick 41 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Michael Barrett at the Round 7 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Nathan Thomas at pick 225 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took Tyler Owens at par in pick No. 230, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Austin Reed slipping to slot 240 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It fills a real need, too.
They barely believed it either: Javontae Jean-Baptiste still on the board at slot 247. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
