If confidence were a draft strategy, the Vikings would have aced it. Joe Milton III at pick 148 is 52 spots clear of where he belonged. No fireworks, but a solid B.
They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Nourzad value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 13th pick they get a double-digit-sack hope. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kris Jenkins. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Cam Hart in No. 108 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They went early on Tommy Eichenberg in pick 129, and the value did not follow. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Joe Milton III this early at Round 5, Pick 12. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jalyx Hunt at the 157th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the S-EDGE. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
Hunter Nourzad slipping to Round 5, Pick 31 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jase McClellan at pick No. 188 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Marcellas Dial in the Round 7 slot, miles early. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Brevyn Spann-Ford. A need, and now a little less of one.
