Thirty-one other rooms let Ro Torrence slide, and the Raiders were the ones holding the card at the 223rd overall pick. Highway robbery.
Reaching for Hartman left real value on the table behind him. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 13 they get a problem off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They took Chris Braswell at par in the 44th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Zak Zinter at the Round 3 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Beaux Limmer in No. 112 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Jacob Cowing in Round 5, Pick 12, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jase McClellan slid further than he should have, and the 208th pick is lovely value for the running back. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
You do not let a cornerback like Ro Torrence reach pick No. 223 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Sam Hartman at pick 229 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
